Matthew 6: 25-27 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and drink and clothing?”

This is one of the teachings of Jesus which was in the sermon on the mount. This summer, during July and August, we are talking about those teachings from Jesus’ sermon. Jesus has some simple yet powerful statements that prove to be life-changing for us when we heed them. As you enjoy the 4th, or vacation over the next several weeks, or just the summer heat and humidity, think about these teachings of Jesus. We will include his whole sermon in the bulletin on July 14.

As you travel and meet folks at the airport or restaurants, at the beach or hotels, let’s make sure they know we are Christians by our kindness, our peacefulness, our humility, and graciousness. You will be so glad you chose the high road!

Have a book you’d recommend for our summer reading list? Please send it and we will include it in next week’s E-Lightener. I’ve been reading the Detective Gamache series by Louise Penny. They are murder mysteries and she clearly is a Christian—occasionally there is a Bible verse or music mentioned that gives you a clue. Book 8 takes place in a monastery and about music—called the Beautiful Mystery.

I also am loving a new Bible which is a Chronological Bible—it puts everything in the historical order it was written.
